Portage, Wisconsin geographically is situated in south central Wisconsin between the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. Portage is the third oldest settlement with historical sites including the Indian Agency House, Surgeon’s quarters and Society Hill with homes dating back to the 1870’s. The city is named for the Fox River and Wisconsin River and the “portage” that had to be made between the two rivers. Marquette and Joliet portaged here on June 14, 1673 on their way to exploring and mapping the upper Mississippi River.
Portage today features a bustling business climate, great shopping and a Performing Arts Center and has a population of over 10,000 people. Portage is ideally located between two major interstate highways which has been an ideal location for thriving businesses and a great industrial park.
